about RealSense™ Depth Module D450 + Vision Processor D4 Board V3 IMU Bundle
Hello, I have a product inquiry.
Our first question, We are curious if "RealSense™ Depth Module D450 + Vision Processor D4 Board V3 IMU Bundle (8 Pack) " has the same specifications as the RealSense D455 or not.
Also, I understand that there is a steel bracket between the depth module and the image processing module.
Is this product including the bracket?
If it is not included, I would like to know if it can be purchased separately.
Or also may we use Flexi Interposer instead bracket??

Hi Ryan Lee Yes, combining a D450 depth module and Vision Processor D4 V3 forms a D455 with IMU, and the assembled camera is detected as D455 and has equal performance.
In the cased D455 cameras, the two boards are placed either side of a heat sink component that draws heat away from the circuitry. This may be the steel bracket that you are referring to. This is not included in the 8-pack and RealSense do not sell them, but customers can choose their own separately purchased heatsink if they need one by following RealSense's guidelines.
The official RealSense data sheet document states: "The Vision Processor D4 Board should be screw mounted on to a heat sink or a heat dissipating structure element using screw forks on the board. Thermal conductive tape (electrically non-conductive) should cover the entire back side area (non-component side) of the ASIC board (which is the Vision Processor D4 board) for thermal transfer onto a heat sink or heat dissipating structure element".
You do not necessarily have to include a heat sink in your own assembly though if the boards are vertically distanced from each other instead of being pressed closely together. You could use a rigid PCB board interposer instead of a flexi interposer (shown as the small square board at the base of the image below). The board connects in-between the two modules so that the D450 will be above the top edge of it and the D4 V3 below the bottom edge of it.

RealSense do not sell the heat sink component separately or have a recommended supplier for it. The guidelines for choosing one yourself are straightforward though. It should ideally be slightly wider than the edges of the depth module. A heat sink is essentially just a block of metal, so there are not any technical considerations to make - it just has to have a flat surface that the depth module and D4 V3 board can be stuck onto.

1. May you share the picture of your heat sink with its size information?? Feel free only it is possible for you.
2. Not like "D450 depth module and Vision Processor D4 V3 forms a D455 with IMU", May we buy exactly same parts of D455 without Product Case(Enclosure)?
3. Does D455 may use a rigid PCB board interposer?

1. I can provide an example image of the heatsink, sandwiched between the depth module and Vision Processor D4, though information about its measurements is not available.
The image is from the D436 model, which uses the D430 depth module, and so whilst the appearance will not be exactly the same as in your D455 setup, it gives an idea of component proportions.

2. The D450 module cannot be modified, and the metal casing around it acts as a stiffener to stabilize the sensors and so cannot be removed. You can however build your own design of Vision Processor and integrate it into your own product design though if you can obtain the chip and connector parts (e.g the Vision Processor D4 chip and the USB housing and its USB connectors). It is much easier to use a pre-built Vision Processor D4 Board though if possible to do so.
The IMU of the D455 is integrated on the D4 V3 board and so you do not need to purchase that part yourself if using the pre-built D4 V3 Board.
If you decide to build and integrate your own Vision Processor D4 design then I would recommend contacting the RealSense sales team to inquire about where to source parts.
3. The cased RealSense cameras use a flexi cable interposer.

2. Yes, connecting the D450 depth module and Vision Processor D4 V3 forms a D455. The firmware driver identifies the model name by checking for what component parts are present. If it detects depth module + RGB color sensor (which is integrated on the D450 depth module) + IMU (which is integrated on the D4 V3 board) then it declares that the assembled camera is a D455.
3. 50 mm is the default size of 'HSF' cable interposer, though it is also available in longer 100, 150 and 200 mm lengths. The official RealSense Store stocks the 50 and 100 mm lengths. The 50 and 100 mm ones plus the longer ones are available from Cocom Consumer Electronics, who are recommended by RealSense for sourcing interposer cabling.
