Position of Camera for Moving Object Reconstruction
Hello,
I’m using a fixed D457 camera to capture the top section of a moving object for 3D reconstruction.
I'm curious about the optimal camera positioning to improve triangulation in stereo matching. Should the camera be perpendicular or parallel to the object's movement direction?

Hi Javier Recasens As the camera is pointing straight down, the orientation should not make a difference to performance. The main influence that the orientation is likely to have is how much of the vehicle is captured in the camera's field of view, which is 87° × 58°.
As the horizontal size of the field of view is wider than the vertical field of view, having the camera oriented on its side would likely be optimal. This is because the car will be lengthy along the horizontal FOV and shorter along the vertical FOV, so a side-on camera orientation should have a much better chance of capturing the entire car within the FOV.
