Hi Ronghao Jonathantan  May I begin by confirming what the shadowing effect that you are referring to is - the black outline around your body, or the rough black area at the bottom of the image?  Thanks!

Hi MartyG, I am referring to the thicker black outline on the left portion of my body (especially the head area) as well as the random black patches more evident on the left image. The image on the right, while it also has black areas, it does seem to be sharper overall.

This effect typically occurs on 400 Series stereo cameras that generate the depth image from the left and right infrared sensor components (hence the term 'stereo'), which are at different positions in the camera.  L515 uses a different camera technology based on scannng with a mirror.

Because the D455 is significantly wider than the D435, the distance between the center-line of the left and right imagers is 50 mm on D435 and 95 mm on D455.

Ideally, the black outline around an object should be roughly equal all around, though sometimes it is shifted mostly to the left side of a person / object like in your image.  Performing a calibration of the camera may improve the results.

The L515 model can scan 23 million accurate depth points per second.
