Which product is suitable for depth measurement ?

Hi Anshu. For this application, a 400 Series stereo depth camera is the most suitable.

If the top of the sand will never be more than 3 meters from the camera at its lowest point then a D435i would be suitable.  Beyond 3 meters, depth measuring accuracy will decline due to a phenomenon called RMS Error (error starts at around zero at the camera lenses and increases linearly over distance).

If the sand will be further than 3 meters from the camera, the D455 model would be a more suitable choice.  It has everything the D435i has (including an IMU if you need one), with the added advantage of 2x the depth measuring accuracy over distance of the D435i.  This means that at 6 meters range, the D455 has the same depth accuracy that the D445i has at 3 meters.  The D455 would therefore be ideal if your camera is mounted on the ceiling of a tall storage container such as a silo

Hi MartyG, thanks for your quick response. I had an additional query with regards to this. What lighting conditions are most suitable for these cameras to operate?

The Vision Processor D4 hardware inside the 400 Series cameras enables them to adjust in real-time to changing environmental and lighting conditions.  Whilst they can operate in low light conditions, if you anticipate conditions of  darkness then adding an external infrared light source such as an IR illuminator would be beneficial.
