    Hi Monica,

Infrared light from the sun will interfere with the performance of the device which can degrade the quality of the depth images when used outdoors. As a power efficient LiDAR camera, L515 will perform best indoors or in controlled lighting conditions.

A rugged Windows tablet - like the Vanquisher - with Windows 10, 64 bit but with only 4 Gb RAM should be able to run the camera. However the limiting factor would be the device storage capacity. The default output format is rosbag which consumes a lot of space (e.g ~200mb for 8 second recording compressed). You may need to process the outputs to a more compact format or use third party software (paid software).

The L515 only outputs a single depth per pixel per frame so this would mean it would only capture first return.

    Hi Rizal,

This is very helpful. I already was told that I need a better tablet by my IT department, it is their policy to buy a newer processor than what Vanquisher unfortunately has.

The other problem is ... we need to do surveys outside so definitely we cannot avoid sunlight, so the lidar camera you have is not suitable. Maybe in the future you can develop a lidar camera that uses between 940 and 1054 nm lidar, that would be very useful for surveys outside. To have that for small areas instead of a ground base lidar for monitoring would be wonderful.

Anyway, do you think the stereo camera 455 I think is your latest one is better suitable for outside work? Since both the lidar and stereo camera will give only first surface, then the camera might answer our needs.

    Thanks,

    Monica

    Hi Monica,

Yes. the D455 is more suitable for outside work as it uses stereo imaging to calculate the depth.
You can check the D400 series datasheet for more technical details.

Additionally, I recommend reading https://www.intelrealsense.com/compare/ to get a more detailed idea for our range of products.

Finally, try checking this third party product if it fits your needs as it also uses RealSense Cameras.
