D405 depth artifact when using another light source

Hi Cuau Lenaic  The RealSense D405 camera model cannot see the near-infrared light spectrum because the sensors are equipped with an IR Cut filter and so it can only see the visible light spectrum.  If the type of laser rangefinder that you are using is based on visible light projection and it is being projected along the same path as the D405 then the light could be blinding the D405's depth sensors, making the depth analysis less reliable.

Would it be an option for you to use the laser rangefinder at the same distance from the observed surface but point it towards the surface from a different angle to the D405's field of view, please?

Do you mean I should place the laser in order to have the red dot out of the camera's field of view ? Unfortunately for my application it seems not possible because I want to measure the distance with laser and surface normal with the camera at the same point (which is the point where there is a red dot) ...

You mentionned an IR Cut filter. If I use a laser distance sensor which uses IR light instead of visible red light would it be ok then ?

It should be okay as the D405 would not be able to see IR light frequencies.
