Fishes and depth tracking
Hello, I would like to know if the laser on the camera can affect fish, is it safe for fish eyes? Also how the camera performs when facing an aquarium, would the moving water affect the readings? would I be able to successfully track fish? What about the other realsense camera models, would any of them perform better at aquariums over the LiDAR tech or be safer for fish? Thank you very much

Hi Marcello,
Thanks for reaching out to us.
RealSense L515, as well as D400 series cameras, are classified as Class 1 Laser Product under the EN/IEC 60825-1, Edition 3 (2014) internationally. As such, it is safe under all conditions of normal use.
The performance from depth sensing in an aquarium can vary due to the possible different lighting conditions, as well as conditions under the water's surface.
I would suggest you have a look at the following two projects to get an idea about the depth sensing quality underwater:A project between Engineers for Exploration (E4E) students with collaborators from Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Their webpage mentions that they are using D455 camera. The introductory video also mentions using D435 and L515 cameras for their project.
Watch their two videos below:
