D435i Smallest Package Size
I'm looking at acquiring one of these units for some very fine depth measurements. My intention is to detail objects of 1mm * 2mm in size, from a range of no more than 100mm.
Will the D435i or indeed any other RealSense products be capable?

Hi Flawedsoftware For your application the most suitable RealSense camera model is likely to be the D405, which is designed for high accuracy and image quality at very close range. It has an ideal depth sensing range of 7 cm to 50 cm (70 mm to 700 mm), though RealSense users have been able to depth-sense with the D405 at 4 cm from an object / surface if a software setting called Disparity Shift is used.

The very small dimensions of the object (1 mm - 2 mm) may be a challenge to detect though. Below is a D405 test I performed with a pin with a shaft approximately 1mm thick and a head approximately 3 mm thick. The upper image is at 7 cm distance from the pin with default settings and the lower image is at 4 cm with a Disparity Shift value of '100'.
