RealSense D421 — confirmation request: IR bandpass filter + updated D400 series datasheet
Dear Intel RealSense Support Team,
We are using the Intel RealSense D421 depth sensor in our robotics application, and would like to confirm a behavior we're observing before finalizing our indoor testing setup.
Context / observation: When operating the D421 indoors without the internal IR projector active, the captured image is essentially pitch black, even at maximum gain and exposure settings. This matches what we'd expect if the sensor has a narrowband IR bandpass filter tuned to ~850nm: standard indoor lighting (LEDs, fluorescent — 400-700nm) emits almost no energy at that wavelength, so the filter would block over 95% of ambient indoor light. Outdoors, or with the internal IR projector enabled, we get high-contrast, usable images, consistent with a dense NIR source (sunlight or the projector) passing through such a filter.
Our question: Could you confirm explicitly whether the D421 has an integrated narrowband IR bandpass (~850nm) filter on both stereo imager lenses?
Additional request: Could you also share an updated D400 series product family datasheet that includes the D421 specifically? The datasheet currently available publicly on Intel's site doesn't appear to cover this model, and having the official specs would help us confirm the filter configuration and other optical characteristics directly.

RealSense has been an independent company 'RealSense, Inc' separate from Intel since July 2025 and has its own website at https://www.realsenseai.com/
1. Yes, D421 is equipped with IR bandpass filtering. RealSense cameras with this filter have them on both of the stereo sensors.

2. A dedicated D421 datasheet document - which the above table was extracted from - can be downloaded as a PDF document at the link below.
