Use case for Depth module

Hi IACTICONTROL CTIcontrol  Thanks very much for your questions.

    1.  Yes, combining certain depth module boards and D4 V4 boards results in a camera that is equal to the pre-built models but without the casing.  For example, D450 depth module and D4 V5 results in a D457.  But if the D4 V3 was used with D450 then the result would be a D455.

    2.  D4 V3 is not deprecated as it is used in various RealSense camera models such as D435i, D455 and D456.   I would recommend using a minimum of USB 3.1 Gen 1 instead of USB 3.0 though as 3.1 is what the USB ports on the D4 V4 board are designed for.  Using 3.0 will often result in the camera only being able to work at the slower USB 2.1 speed.

    3.  Interposers are not supplied in the board pack and must be purchased separately.

Thanks for your answer. One last aspect about V3 and V5 board, Is there any difference in the inference/accuracy between both boards or the only one is about the FAKRA/GMSL implementation?

If you are using a D450 depth module then a camera made with V3 or V5 will perform very similarly in terms of the image capabilities, including accuracy.

Higher data transfer speeds will be possible when using a D450 with the V5's GMSL / FAKRA connector.

Thank you so much. To conclude, I would like to ask you if it is possible to buy only one unit of D450 module + D4 V3 board instead of the 8 pack units. If not, Is there any other website to buy this items without ''Invalid SKU Error'' or any other firmware compatibility risk?

I need to be sure of this things before buying anything. For the moment, I need only one unit to test it.

The Invalid SKU Error is only a risk when purchasing the V3 board and D450 separately.  The 8-pack is the only way to be certain that this issue will not occur on V3.

The SKU error would not occur with the V5 version, as its pre-installed firmware is a recent one.

The V3 issue was related to the age of the firmware that was pre-installed on it.  There have been two versions of the D450 module, and the SKU error occurs if the newer D450 version is used with an older V3.  The link below has information about this.

The 8-pack of D450 and V3 ensures that you are getting depth module and D4 boards that are a correct version match.

The D450 and V3 and V5 boards can be purchased individually from approved RealSense parts suppliers, such as Rutronik24.

So that if I buy an V5 board, results using USB mode should work exactly as V3 board, Am I right? I need to be sure of it before buy more boards.

I would like not to expend too much for now.

On the V5, a small physical switch needs to be moved sidewards with a small thin object like a pin, needle or paperclip to put it into USB mode, as by default it is set to use the GMSL connector.  Once the switch position is moved then a D450 will be detected as 'D455' and behave the same as a pre-built D455 camera when used with a USB cable, just like when using a D450 with the V3.
