What is functional purpose of the cut in L515 cover glass?

As far as I understand it does not have any optical purpose. Would obstructing it in some way (e.g. if it will get filled with dirt) negatively impact performance of the sensor in some way?

    Hi,

    The plastic indentation is a physical separator between the laser emitter and the receiver. 

    Any dirt on the front cover glass will degrade performance of the camera.
