Which RealSense product is right for me?
I am considering the RealSense products for surface mapping hand or face geometry from a captured video.
I would like to perform captures, from 3-5 metres away, of hand gestures or face geometry, at HD resolution, at 30 frames per second or better. So, far-field rather than near-field capture. The cameras will be static (mounted on tripods or similar).
I am planning to use between 2 and 8 devices (I am assuming all the same make and model unless there is an advantage to do otherwise), combining the data using something like PatchMatch multi-view stereo [Galliani et al. 2015] or our own algorithm working along similar lines.
The devices will be used indoors in a green screen film studio with controlled, diffuse lighting.
Which of the Intel RealSense devices would be best suited to this task?

Hi Michael Davey If you require a stereo camera with depth sensing accuracy at long range, the RealSense D455 would be an excellent fit for those criteria. It has 2x the accuracy over distance of the D435 model. At 6 meters range it has the same depth accuracy as a D435 at 3 meters.

I am not currently involved in support for the L515 model, so I recommend posting a separate case on this forum if you have a multiple-camera question about L515.
In regard to the 400 Series stereo depth cameras though, these cameras do not interfere with each other when placed in a multiple-camera arrangement (e.g 8 cameras arranged in a 360 degree circle and pointing inwards). Overlapping the fields of view (FOV) of cameras can also improve depth data as there is redundancy in the data from the same area being observed by more than one camera. The more cameras that you have in the arrangement, the less blind-spots there are.

Thanks Marty.
I've logged a follow-on case at https://support.intelrealsense.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/1500000245302-Which-RealSense-product-is-right-for-me-D4xx-series-or-L515-
