The facial data is stored as an encrypted binary blob on a Secure Element in the F400 module. The Enrollment Process explains it a bit further.
You should also read the datasheet which provides many more details and answers to your questions. You can find the datasheet and other Tech Specs at the bottom of the RealSense ID Product page.
Recommended range:
0.3-1 meterThe time it takes to complete an authentication is less than 0.8 seconds. The number of images taken is irrelevant because images are not stored anywhere and is not configurable. The face capture is used to compute a mathematical faceprint that is then encrypted and stored in the Secure Element.
