L515 connection over a long distance
Hi,
I am interested in using the L515 over a cable of ~4 meters.
I have yet to buy the product, but I see that the cable connects on the PC side into a USB-A connector.
What wires are actually used in the USB cable? And are there available active "repeaters" or amplifiers that will handle the cable length?
Thank you.

Hi Mdovrat,
The Intel RealSense L515 Lidar camera connectors are USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 and the maximum length for USB 3.1 Gen 1 is only 2 meters. The cable provided along with the box is only 1 meter.
If you are using a longer USB cable, your data transfer rate may get lower and lower. The power delivery will fail too. Many users have found success with these cables from Newnex. If you want to get more length, Active USB-C cables can come in handy when you need something with faster speeds and 4K videos that are longer than 1m. Currently, you can find an active USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 cable up to 3m in length. There are also active Thunderbolt 3 cables that can hit the full 40Gbps bandwidth at 2 meters – but they’re much more expensive and only work with Thunderbolt 3 computers and peripherals. Thus, if you need more than 3 meters of distance, you would have to use optical cables.
