Ray Casting to Point Cloud
Hi, I’m trying to convert a depth image from the SR305 to a point cloud. In order to do this, I have a few questions:
1. Does the depth camera measure distance to the camera’s eye or to the closest point of the viewing plane extended to infinity?
2. If it measures distance to the eye, then what is the focal length of the camera? The tech specs don’t have that value and I need it to cast a ray through each pixel.
3. If it measures distance to the viewing plane, then would stepping through each pixel represent an equal change in angle?
Ex.(Horizontal) FOV = 54 deg, height = 480 pixels, so each pixel represents a 54/480deg change in angle?
Thanks for the help!

The data sheet document for the SR305 can be found at the link below.
1. Page 27 of the data sheet states that the SR305 measures depth from the camera's front glass (add 3.4 mm to measurements to determine Ground Truth).
2. According to the data sheet, the focal length of the color sensor is 1.88 mm and the focal length of the IR sensor is 1.67 mm.
