Depth Resolution of D435
I would like to measure the thickness of an object at different locations of its body, by looking at an image taken by a 3-D (depth) camera such as D435.
However, from the feature specs of D435, I cannot say if the camera has a good enough resolution to be able to distinguish between two different points on the object body, with only a few mm difference.
Below are the depth specs of the camera from Intel website:
|
Depth Technology: Active IR Stereo Depth Field of View (FOV): 87°±3° x 58°±1° x 95°±3° |
Minimum Depth Distance (Min-Z): 0.105 m Depth Output Resolution & Frame Rate: Up to 1280 x 720 active stereo depth resolution. Up to 90 fps. |
Is this camera able to do what I need?
Thanks for your help.

In the link below, the Chief Technical Officer of the RealSense Group at Intel (agrunnet) provides detailed information about depth resolution.

I hope that the information will be sufficient for you to judge whether a RealSense camera can meet your requirements.
