Now that Intel is interested in supporting filmmaking as a use case, will they finally add support for standard filmmaking frame rates like 24p? Or add a method fo synchronizing the hardware with an external camera? If not it seems like this will be limited solely to previs work.

24 FPS support for film-makers has been a requested feature by RealSense users.  As far as I know, it is not on the developer roadmap though.  I believe the reason for this is that they try not to add too many new stream modes because it extends the amount of time required to test each new SDK version before release.

There is a workaround to reduce FPS by manually adjusting the exposure, though it is of course not as ideal as being able to do it with a FPS mode selection.  The link below has an example of a user doing this in ROS.

There are not many reported cases of a RealSense camera being synced with a non-RealSense professional camera such as a film-making RED camera.  I understand that it is technically possible though.  I recalled and tracked down such a case involving using metadata to sync a RealSense D415 camera with a Stereolabs ZED camera

Thanks Mary for the information about the camera sync.

24 fps requires a firmware update that Intel has said they do not plan on creating. The main question is, now that they are interested in promoting filmmaking as a use case, will they actually provide support for it and add 24 fps.

I will try reopening the GitHub issue to get Intel's attention. Thanks again.

Hi again Nextstagepro, I was pointing another user to a link about aligning depth frames from a 400 Series camera to the color frames of a non-RealSense camera, and recalled your interest in external camera sync.  So I thought I'd share the link with you too.
