What is the accuracy of the RealSense D435i?
Hello everyone.
I'd like to use the D435i to capture a point cloud/3D Map of an object. The distance between camera and object would be between 100-1000mm.
What is the best/worst distance between the captured points? What dependencies are relevant in this context?

When you say, that the expected accuracy is less than 1% of the distance, is this based on a single frame? And if I use the Camera for 3D Mapping using multiple frames, would the accuracy be higher?
In the document you linked it is mentioned that the D415 offers a high-depth resolution which yields a more precise measurement compared to the D435, however it should only be used with small object sizes.
How much higher is the accuracy and would an object with max 2x2x1m be considered small?

I would say that the accuracy rule applies to whatever the current distance of the camera is from the object being observed, and will change in real-time as you move the camera closer to the object or further away.
Typically, the D415 has about 2.5x the depth resolution of the D435, and roughly half the 'RMS error' over distance. Since RMS error increases linearly over distance and only becomes noticable beyond the 3 meter point, there is very little difference in the RMS error factor between the D415 and D435 at close range though.
I would consider a 2x2x1 meter object to be large. Centimeter scale would be considered to be small.
