save faces from pointcloud in python without exporting to ply

I'm looking for a solution to save vertices and faces from the camera stream in python. I used Pyrealsense2 python wrapper to save vertices from the pointcloud, but i didn't find a solution to save faces. Due to performance reasons, i DON'T want to export pointcloud as .ply and extract the faces afterwards with a different library.
Thanks in advance for any kind of hints,
